Philanthropy (Part One)

Creating an ideal future for our children is the highest act of philanthropy possible.  If we think the task is impossible, it will never happen; we would have given up before we've begun.  Help us then.  Earth Network International (EN) is set up as a tool to help bring about a new world situation in which all that exists is good.  But before one can consider such a global level change, one must understand how major lasting change takes place, otherwise we are all wasting our time.

Einstein said it well:  "The problems that face us cannot be solved at the same level of consciousness that created them."  This means that to change how people behave we have to change how they think.  In order to change thinking in other than superficial ways, we must change worldviews.  To do that, we have to trigger a shift in perception.  That can't be forced.  A person will only allow such change if one, they see new information as having more integrity and validity than the information on which they had based previous thinking, and two, they are motivated, or rather, on an emotional level want to change.

Recently, environmental bills have failed to pass in the US because Democrats have different worldviews than Republicans.  Because of the differences in how each group views nature and sees man in relation to nature, Democrats want new, clean technologies, and Republicans want better or greater use of the resources and technologies that exist.  The stalemate is a good metaphor illustrating what is problematic in our current global situation, and exactly what needs to change in order to bring about a new world situation.

To truly transform our global reality we have to achieve greater (not total) harmony in belief.  To achieve this there must be a change of influx of some kind because otherwise, with the status quo as it exists, nothing like this will happen.  EN knows what that change or influx needs to be and how to bring it about.  In the world at this time, we have important critical differences between religion and science, and to a lesser degree between the various religions themselves, and therein lies both the problem and the opportunity.  Because there's a problem, there's room for great improvement, and therein lies a great opportunity.

There are certain beliefs that all these groups hold, which if changed would result in a "coming together" of all people - a uniting of ideas, purposes and expectations.  This is because the current divisions between religions and science are a result of particular errors, rather than truths, in worldviews, which once mended will usher in a new age quite automatically.

William Eastwood:  "Philanthropy is no longer reserved for a special few, rather, its commonplace.  This is because it's the basis of life, the most natural state of being, or thing to do, and people are finally realizing it.

"The fact that people are good deep down inside, and only want to get that goodness out, is what I believed since I was a child.  It is the basis of EN courses.  Nothing else ever did make any sense to me.  One is actually selfish when they are altruistic because only altruism helps the self.  Always knowing this I've always been selfishly loving, altruistic and philanthropic.  Philanthropy brings a "payoff" of love and satisfaction, (not that that's the reason we do it).  It enriches and adds quality to life.  There is nothing else.  Its how the universe works - and that is one of the missing facts that once accepted will transform our world.

"I think current trends support that hypothesis.  Philanthropy is up 65% over a decade ago.  People are becoming true to what they always were, but previously didn't realize they were.  And this despite the social consensus.  The ideas that were sold to past generations about humanity being something else are the lies.  Our system of laws is based on the absurd idea that we are naturally bad, and the ridiculous concept that one can gain at the expense of another.  In the long run only "win-win" will work in one's life.

"Luckily, with the internet, we're seeing children get heavily involved with philanthropy - that's the latest big trend.  It's as if our beliefs about who we are, are finally beginning to match the reality of what we are.  A mother is altruistic in relation to her child, but we all are inherently and intrinsically so inclined - one to the other.  One may have to go deep, below layers of false beliefs, because it's only false beliefs that interfere."

Mainstream beliefs are "self-fulfilling prophecy."  They create what they imply.  The beliefs of a culture are like a set of instructions directing behavior until all behavior fits the original belief.  Beliefs are complex, fed by many sources.

Theories, such as Darwin's, when accepted by a whole culture, actually manifest as behavior.  The fact is that behavior always reflects beliefs, is always interpreted in light of those beliefs, and this is true whether that behavior is unnatural, criminal and competitive, or natural, cooperative and loving.

Beliefs are a culture's expectations, and they always manifest in the individual members of the society that holds them.  On multiple levels and in subtle ways, adults and peers influence children, rewarding or discouraging behavior and their thinking patterns.  This goes on until certain adult expectations have become a reality, which means that everything then fits the picture given.  The norms that then form around this picture are adopted by most youth in a desperate attempt to fit in and belong.

There is increasing support of these ideas in mainstream science.  Neuroscientists Trey Hedden and John Gabrieli of MIT's McGovern Institute for Brain Research say culture impacts the hardwiring of one's brain.  In this article we won't be going further into that science.  Nor will we go into the details of the substitute information about human nature that will bring science and religion much closer together.  We will keep it at "it casts human nature in a much more hopeful light."  Consider now, the effect of doing that.

A new world is being born from the inside out.  Very simply, as we learn to believe we are good, and teach exactly why this is true fact to our children, they manifest it as their reality.  (The reliability of what psychologists call "self-fulfilling prophecy" is supported by much empirical evidence.)  This is one way how EN is changing human behavior.  There are new ideas out there we only want to bring to your attention.  These are ideas regarding the origin, conceptual evolution, nature and purpose of humanity, which are both fascinating and intellectually challenging.  We believe these ideas represent the change or influx previously mentioned to be necessary to change the status quo and bring about a new world situation.  Many renown physicists and religious/spiritual leaders alike feel that these ideas are extremely practical and accurate substitutes for what is currently popular on the world stage.

The truth will bring out our goodness.  Matter of fact, even without our teaching, this is already happening.  This trend in philanthropy is occurring despite a cleavage in the world, despite an opposite trend involving beliefs which are bringing about increasing distrust of human nature.  This natural trend in the direction of the new worldview EN helps people to understand should be accelerated to avoid a possible catastrophic downward spiral.  Because of naturally changing beliefs (greater maturity), we are witnessing a rapid rise in "giving" around the world (in the most prosperous countries especially).

Our courses therefore fit the trend, accelerating the changes for the better, allowing fulfillment of the human need to be altruistic and thus giving release to the natural altruism within us.  As the trend gains momentum and the facts are focused on, each person's natural desire to express altruism increases.

Because we are generating goodwill motivation due to the science we are bringing to people's attention, we also feel obligated to point out or create avenues for effective giving. This is part of the reasoning behind EN's effort to better enable you to begin a philanthropic initiative in your life.  Those who are feeling a drive or need to contribute to the world to make it a better place need to be provided with ways to do so, and/or help and guidance along those lines. If you want to be a philanthropist or help people, we'll help you to do so.

We are accepting help and donations in order to improve our philanthropy site.  To inquire or help, write to Earth Network International, 7018 97th Avenue, Lanham, MD 20706.
